SUMMER SHAKESPEARE

Come and celebrate our 20th Birthday with us! The Esterhazy Chamber Choir celebrates summer with settings of sonnets and songs by William Shakespeare. Jazz pianist George Shearing was the focus for John Rutter's Birthday Madrigals and Shearing himself had composed setting of Shakespeare for Jazz piano and double bass. We bring the two together in one programme and include settings by Vaughan Williams and others. Summer, Shakespeare and Jazz - a winning combination!

VACANCIES for singers

The Esterházy Chamber Choir is looking to recruit experienced singers with good sight reading to fill vacancies for 1 soprano, up to 3 tenors and 1 bass. Friendly and quite hard working, the choir gives 3 concerts a year with programmes singing music from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries - please see the examples on this website. Rehearsals are in Lewes from 7.30 to 9.30 on Wednesdays. If you are interested please send your contact information and brief details of your experience to date to the Music Director, Sandy Chenery (schenery[AT]brightoncollege.net).

About the choir...

The Esterházy Chamber Choir was founded in 1993 and is based in Lewes, East Sussex. Comprising around thirty four experienced singers from a wide variety of backgrounds, the choir aims to perform at the highest standard whilst remaining firmly rooted in the fine English tradition of amateur music making. Music Director Sandy Chenery was recently interviewed by Lewes Classical.

The group's repertoire spans four centuries of sacred and secular music with an emphasis on a cappella singing. Past concerts are listed in the concert archive.

As a Registered Charity, the group strives to make music more accessible to the young by offering free admission to accompanied children at concerts which the choir itself promotes - in particular its popular Christmas concert.

The choir receives support from its Friends Association.  If you wish to become a Benefactor, Patron or Associate please approach the choir through the email address below.

Please get in touch if you would like to ask us to perform at a wedding, or other occasion.
